Chemical pressure induced by iso-valent doping has been widely employed to tune physical properties of materials. In this work, we report effects of chemical pressure by substitution of Sb or P into As on a recently discovered diluted magnetic semiconductor (Ba,K)(Zn,Mn) 2 As 2, which has the record of reliable Curie temperature of 230 K due to independent charge and spin doping.The Ba-Zn system was investigated by differential thermal, metallographic and X-ray analysis. Among the five intermediate phases identified, the Ba 2 Zn, BaZn and BaZn 13 compounds melt congruently at 360 °C, 340 °C and 885 °C respectively, while BaZn 2 and BaZn 5 form peritectically at 380 °C and 635 °C. Three eutectics are formed: between Ba and Ba 2 Zn at 345 °C (25.0 at.%BaZnGa has been a widely discussed hypothetical material; existing more as a concept rather than an actual compound.
